Ron Esman
Science Coordinator

• Ron has taught biology, chemistry and physics in Texas high schools for 39 years.  He taught AP® Physics at Abilene High School from 1993 to 2001 and Plano Senior High School from 2001-2006.  In 2006, the physics team had 45 passing scores from 51 students; only 1 student in the class did not take the exam.
• He taught in the Rio Grande Valley from 1967-1976.  There he served as the Science Department Chairman at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School and for the last two years was the Director of Secondary Staff Development and Director of the Teacher Center in conjunction with The University of Texas at Pan American.
• In 1976, Ron began teaching in the Abilene ISD and became Science Department Chairman in 1978.  During his 25 years there, he implemented computer and calculator based labs in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.  He also served as the curriculum coordinator for the AHS feeder schools.  He pioneered the AP sciences in Abilene High School and became the AP Physics teacher starting in 1993.  In 2001, he began teaching for the Plano ISD and finished his teaching career as Physics Team Leader at Plano Senior High in 2006.
• Ron is designated as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, Dreyfus-Wilson Master Teacher in Chemistry and as a Physics Teaching Resource Agent (PTRA) by the American Association of Physics Teachers.
• He has served as a College Board Consultant for many years and has presented summer institutes at six University of Texas campuses, Rice University, Texas Tech University, Texas Lutheran University , Regional Service Centers and other locations as well as one and two-day conferences for the College Board in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
• Ron has served as an adjunct faculty member at University of Texas Pan American for 2 years, and at McMurry University for 4 years in the Secondary Education Departments.
• He has served as a reviewer for chemistry and physics textbooks for both Addison Wesley and Holt Rinehart Winston.
• Before joining Laying the Foundation, Ron did consulting work for Advanced Placement Strategies for 4 years and was a contributing author for the Laying the Foundation Guides.
