Ron Esman

Ron Esman

Science Coordinator

Ron first became acquainted with LTF staff through his work with the TEA Lighthouse Initiative, College Board activities, summer institutes, and teacher training events throughout the state. He then served as one of the original authors of the LTF Physics Guide, and ultimately joined LTF in a full-time capacity. Of his many accomplishments since joining LTF, Ron is most proud of successfully “focusing teachers on developing a coordinated and paced curriculum system which involves thorough planning and a program guided by objectives and outcomes which are developed before delivery of instruction.” He enjoys working with teachers who are motivated to make positive changes in their own classrooms in order to help their students succeed.

Ron describes his personal philosophy of education as “all about delivery, expectations, accountability and success.” “In raising my own children and teaching in the classroom for 39 years,” he explains, “I have determined that students can accomplish almost anything they decide to do. It is our job as teachers to make sure we guide students to successful outcomes by delivering good education, challenging them with high expectations and holding them responsible for their own success.” Ron hopes that LTF will continue to expand its current activities, ideally involving “administrators, counselors, community leaders and parents so that they can become more informed, supportive and understanding of teachers as they work to improve instruction.” He believes that educational objectives must be designed to directly meet “the needs of today’s modern and changing society,” and is glad that he can work through LTF to meet this goal.

Ron holds a BS and an MEd. Before joining LTF four years ago, he taught biology, chemistry, and physics in areas across Texas, including the Rio Grande Valley, West Texas, and North Texas. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at two universities in their secondary education departments. He is a Princeton University Woodrow Wilson Fellow (Dreyfus-Wilson Master Teacher in Chemistry) and a Physics Teacher Resource Agent through the American Association of Physics Teachers. Ron also has served as a reviewer for chemistry and physics textbooks for both Addison Wesley and Holt Rinehart Winston
