Mary Payton

Assistant Science Director

Mary gradually eased into her current position at LTF. She started by assisting with AP Chemistry prep sessions and facilitating vertical teaming meetings in nearby districts. Then, as the first LTF guides were developed in 2003, Mary was charged with giving the entire science series “one voice,” and served as editor-in-chief of the project. She steadily took on additional responsibilities until she was working full-time as the Pre-AP science director.

Mary enjoys the opportunity to work with “such smart, hard-working people,” especially during the “back and forth” process of developing and finalizing lessons. She takes pride in the lessons that the science team has created both for the original guide project and subsequent publications. “The lessons are the backbone of our program,” Mary says. “I’m pretty sure I’ve touched every science lesson that’s ever been written at LTF!” She loves that LTF promotes the “vision of good, solid, science education” through its training programs and looks forward to helping teachers further enhance their instruction through to-be-developed materials such as skill builders, supplemental problems, test banks, and project-based learning.

Before joining LTF, Mary taught for nine years in Carroll ISD. She brings instructional experience in Pre-AP Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and biotechnology to the LTF science team, as well as organizational expertise developed while parenting her two school age children! Mary has also served as a College Board consultant for Pre-AP Chemistry. She holds a BS in Genetics.
