Testimonials

"Use public and private funds to expand the presence of…the pre-AP teacher training program, Laying the Foundation, in as many Texas school districts as possible."

The Next Frontier: World-class Math and Science Education for Texas, TAMEST, 2009

"The training supplied by Laying the Foundation in addition to the learning materials used to support instruction [is] superb. … Perhaps more importantly, by embracing the LTF philosophy for the first time in decades our vertical teams of teachers are communicating and helping shape the success of our graduates."

Ed Yergalonis, Assistant Superintendent Rahway Public Schools, New Jersey

"The Laying the Foundation books are by far the most powerful Pre-AP resources I have seen. This will change the way Pre-AP mathematics is taught! … I can't wait to employ these lessons in my own classroom."

AP Calculus Teacher, Abilene ISD, Texas

Who We Are

Laying the Foundation® (LTF) is dedicated to providing quality teacher-to-teacher training, rigorous classroom materials, and web-based resources to improve the quality of mathematics, science and English instruction. The goal of LTF is to improve the teacher corps in the U.S. To this end, the LTF program provides math, science and English teachers in grades 6-10 with the content knowledge, teaching strategies, vertically aligned materials, and assessments required to emulate AP-level coursework in the lower grades. Additionally, the emphasis on technology in math and science classrooms provides more relevant and engaging coursework for students preparing to enter STEM-related fields.

Building Academic Excellence

The LTF approach begins with empowering teachers. Highly qualified teachers are critical for efforts aimed at increasing student college and career readiness. According to Bill Gates’ 2009 Annual Letter, "If you want your child to get the best education possible, it is actually more important to get him assigned to a great teacher than to a great school." LTF’s commitment to training, mentoring, and empowering the teacher corps answers recommendations from the National Academy of Math and Sciences, the Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST), and recently defined priorities for federal Race to the Top grants.
