Guides Overview

Created in 2003 by master teachers, the guides are designed to teach students the skills they need in grades 6-11 in order to prepare for AP* Calculus and Statistics exams.

All of the lessons in the guide have been written by actual teachers and have been used with actual students under the normal constraints of classroom teaching. We have tried to make the lessons as user-friendly as possible, including both a student page that can be reproduced as well as an answer key for the teacher. We did not include lessons for topics that we feel are covered well in most textbooks. We intend for these lessons to serve as supplements to what you are already doing. Using them in conjunction with your textbook and lessons you have written yourself will allow you to explore what it is that makes a course “Pre-AP.” Feel free to adapt the lessons to fit your own teaching style and the particular needs of your students. We hope that these will also serve as inspiration to allow you to develop lessons of your own that you can then share with other members of your team.

Each guide is designed to help the teacher connect what is currently being taught in mathematics classes to the skills, concepts, and assessment strategies that will increase student success in AP mathematics classes and other advanced coursework.
