Math Coordinator
When LTF was formed, June was serving as a Lead Teacher in Dallas ISD. She recalls being impressed with the new LTF training and materials and training many of the teachers in the district. Then, upon retiring from the district in 2007, June was able to continue her work in math education through a permanent position at LTF.
June’s favorite part of her role is working with the math team. She explains, “This group of educators is extremely gifted in so many ways. Some have special gifts in theoretical knowledge, creative lesson and question writing, and that necessary critical eye to editing and excellence. I learn something new each time I watch one of them present. All are generous and willing to do more than their share of the work.” She is also proud of the AP “magnum opus”: the set of prep session materials created for AP Calculus AB / BC and AP Statistics in less than six months! When asked about her hopes for LTF’s future, June anticipates increased utilization of online capabilities, both for teacher education and student assessment. She believes that online learning communities will particularly benefit teachers and their students by providing a forum for teacher collaboration and reflection.
High standards lie at the core of June’s philosophy of education. “Students are capable of so much more than we often demand of them,” she says. “Give them excellent instruction, creative questions and assessments, and support them with time and energy. Students will succeed with this support from teachers and administrators.”
June holds a BA in Mathematics and has completed graduate hours in Mathematics and Education. She brings over 25 years of experience teaching a wide range of math topics in Fort Worth, Nashville, and Dallas. She was part of the AP team at WT White High School when it received the College Board Inspiration Award. June was also the Lead Teacher in the Dallas ISD Incentive Program from 2000 – 2007 and hosted Calculus Live!, a live, interactive television show designed to encourage AP Calculus students, during her last five years with the district.
